BiographyKōdō 浩堂 (Okuda Kōdō 奥田浩堂 ), b.1940. Learned ivory carving from his father, the noted carver Kodo Okuda. Trained as a painter before turning to carving. Netsuke are all original designs taken from contemporary Japanese life, and are sometimes erotic. Regarded as a national living treasure of Japan, several works are in the collection of the British Museum.
