Ichirō 一郎 (Inada Ichirō 稲田一郎), 1891-1977. Studied under Koichi, whose carving lineage goes back to Hojitsu. Began learning to carve at thirteen, but was also interested in painting. First carver to use color extensively on ivory. Early in his career often carved animal subjects but is best known for his figures from Kabuki plays, Japanese history, and everyday life. Particularly enjoyed carving figures of children. Usually carved in ivory, but the wooden netsuke he carved during World War II are often considered his finest works.
