DescriptionWith filicrana: Abraham's Sacrifice; reverse: shield in blue, and monogram: "H L X" in yellow
Label TextThe scene on this goblet depicts the Old Testament story in which God tests Abraham’s faith by asking him to sacrifice his son Isaac, as told in Genesis 22. The image probably derives from a contemporary woodcut illustration of the same subject. The reverse side of the goblet bears the monogram “HLX” in a blue shield.Published ReferencesPage, Jutta-Annette, The Art of Glass: Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo, Ohio, Toledo Museum of Art, 2006, p. 104, repr.
