Aleksandra (Sasha) Stoyanov

Ukrainian, born Odessa, born 1957
BiographyAleksandra (Sasha) Stoyanov born in 1957 in Odessa (Ukraine) and has been active in Israel since 1990. Her artistic pursuits began in the area of theatrical design at the National Institute for Applied Decorative Arts, but in her mid-30s she realized that the theater world was not her pathway for artistic expression. In 1990, at the age of 33, Sasha and her husband immigrated to Israel, seeking a better life for their young
daughter. They established themselves in the northern town of Yokneam, overlooking the Jezreel Valley where the landscape and the love for craft-based mediums would influence Sasha tremendously. Although largely self-taught in weaving, she took an advanced course in weaving with a WIZO that helped her navigate larger looms and refine
her technique. By 1995 was invited to participate in Modern Israeli Craft taking place in Tokyo. Her work has been exhibited in Japan, Poland, Israel and in the United States and it is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
