DescriptionThis high-relief, trapezoidal fragment is made of opaque red glass and was shaped using mold-pressing and deep cutting techniques. It depicts the head of a smiling, bearded Silenus with a broad, flat face, arched raised eyebrows, large eyes with drilled pupils, a flaring nose, and a full lower lip. His long moustache is tooled, and his hair and beard are rendered in thick, striated, wavy locks. A twisted notched band and a fluted, halo-like band encircle the top of the head. The back is flat.
