DescriptionThis object is the stemmed base of a large bowl or other vessel. It has a thick, outsplayed base that slopes downward to a rounded edge, with a concave underside. A short cylindrical stem tapers upward and is topped by a low, rounded, disk-shaped knob. The base displays a marbled mosaic pattern made from large polygonal sections cut from a single cane, arranged in a turquoise-blue ground with numerous opaque white rods. The piece was mold fused, abraded, and tooled. It was assembled from sections of cane and cast, then rotary-polished on both surfaces.
