DescriptionThis fragment comes from the bottom and stemmed base of a large bowl or similar vessel. It displays a marbled mosaic pattern formed from polygonal sections of a single cane in a purple ground with numerous opaque white rods. The surviving base has a convex shape with a fairly flat edge and a concave underside. A short cylindrical stem tapers upward, topped by a low, rounded disk-shaped knob. Two horizontal grooves are cut into the underside of the foot: one just above the edge and another higher up. The piece was assembled from cane sections, cast, mold fused, tooled, abraded, rotary-polished on both surfaces, and cut on the exterior.
