DescriptionThin glass. Fabric cannot be determined because of weathering.
Transparent to translucent streaky manganese colored grayish-purple (5 P 4/2) to pale red-purple (5 RP 6/2). Translucent natural green handle and coil; exact color cannot be determined because of weathering.
Body blown into a vertically ribbed and grooved mold, then twisted and expanded. On base large cylindrical wad from ring pontil, ca. 2.4 cm in diameter. Added coil. Excess glass at tip of handle clipped off.
Flaring circular mouth; rim folded outward, upward, and inward. Slightly tapering neck with curved transition to shoulder. Strongly sloped shoulder. Ovoid, carinated body, ending in round pointed base. Straight plain coil handle applied to shoulder and attached to top of rim where it was folded vertically upward to form an open loop projecting above rim.
Coil at base of neck, from left to right, beginning under handle application but, unusually, ending over it.
CLASSIFICATION: Jug Class IA1b with coil handle IA1a.
