Suki Seokyeong Kang
South Korean, born 1977
Kang received her BFA in 2000, MFA 2002, and DFA in 2016 at 이화여자대학교 (Ewha Womans University) in Seoul, where she is currently a professor. She also received her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in London in 2012. Her first US solo presentation was at the ICA Philadelphia in 2018 and had a recent major survey at the Leeum Museum of Art, Seoul, in 2023. She has been in notable group exhibitions including The Shape of Time: Korean Art after 1989, Philadelphia Museum of Art (2023); Whose Story is This, Museum of Contemporary Art Busan (2022); Dependent Objects, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (2021); Sites of the Future, Tensta Konsthall, Stockholm (2019); OTHER WALKS, OTHER LINES, San Jose Museum of Art (2018); among others. Kang has been featured in the Venice Biennale (2019), Shanghai Biennale (2018), Liverpool Biennial (2018), and Gwangju Biennale (2018 and 2016). Kang received the Baloise Art Prize in 2018, 13th Songeun Art Award (2013), and an awardee of the Bloomberg new Contemporaries in 2012.
