Gimhongsok

South Korean, born 1964
BiographyGimhongsok, born in Seoul, Korea in 1964, is a prominent figure in the contemporary art scene. He currently resides and works in Seoul, Korea, where he also serves as a professor of Stage Art at Sangmyung University in Cheonan. Gimhongsok pursued his artistic education at Seoul National University, Department of Visual Arts (1987), and later at Kunst Akademie Düsseldorf in Germany (1996).

His works have been showcased in various exhibitions worldwide, including the Gwangju Biennial, Venice Biennale, Istanbul Biennale, Yokohama Triennale, Mori Art Museum, Hayward Gallery, Tate Liverpool, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Guggenheim Museum, and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Gwacheon and Seoul.

Several renowned institutions house Gimhongsok's works in their collections, including Le Consortium in Dijon, France; the Contemporary Art Museum in Kumamoto, Japan; the Kadist Foundation in San Francisco, USA/Paris, France; the Leeum Samsung Museum of Art in Seoul, Korea; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in Los Angeles, USA; the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston; the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, Canada; and the Queensland Art Gallery in Australia.

Gimhongsok's presence in these esteemed collections underscores his significant contribution to the contemporary art world.
