Description'Switchback' is a monumental sculpture of welded bronze, affixed to a granite base. The design flows continuously from top to bottom, and is comprised of three separate pieces. The work showcases Meadmore's signature use of a rectangular volume, twisted and contorted, resulting in a sculpture that is at once geometric and fluid, imposing but delicate. At 14 feet tall the scale of the work is of note, and further lends itself to the sense of tension that characterizes the sculpture. Experiencing the work firsthand, the viewer is confronted with a monumental sculpture nearly triple the height of the average human that is also imbued with the grace of movement of a dancer. This play between geometry, movement, and reference to the human form is what gives 'Switchback' its dynamism.
