DescriptionChristofano Robetta Italian, 1462–after 1522 ALLEGORY OF THE POWER OF LOVE Engraving on paper, about 1500 Museum Purchase, 1931.14 An engraver as well as a goldsmith, Christofano Roberta is known to have made approximately 36 engravings. Influenced by many artists, his prints pull together techniques including Mantegna’s style of outlining and designs reminiscent of the landscapes of Dürer. This particular print was made to appeal to patrons that had knowledge of ancient Greece and Rome and would be able to decipher its allegorical meaning.
