DescriptionEngraving after the portrait of Maurice-Quentin de la Tour, the larger of two. Written in pencil on bottom of mat: George Friedrich Schmidt, Portrait of Maurice Quentin de la Tour, engraving (after de la Tour's self-portrait, 1772). In pencil on verso: 34927. A purple stamp is visible but unreadable. A red stamp: Duplicate. On recto in pencil: 1. ?Mr. Schmidt ½ 2. Schmidt ½ M.Q de la Tour de Kleine ½ Anderson 59. Engraved into the plate: Peint par la même ½ ABerlin duz L'Auteur a la nouvelle Cologne sur le Canal ½ Gravé par son ami G.F. Schmidt graveur du Roy en 1772. Designed into center of image: Maurice Quentin de la Tour, P?eintre du Roy et Conseiller en son Academie Royale de Peinture et sculptre.
