Mrs. L.E. O'Bannon

BiographyLaura E. O’Bannon was a Toledo modiste who made fashionable garments for Toledo’s society women. Laura was the daughter of Jacob Barrick, a Pennsylvania tailor. She married William Wilson O’Bannon, a farmer and Civil War veteran, and in 1878 William partnered with her father in the tailoring business. It is thought that Laura moved from Newark, Ohio to Toledo after leaving her husband and started her business in her residence to support herself and her children. The 1889 Toledo city directory states she is widowed, however records show William O'Bannon did not pass until 1923. Mrs. Laura E. O’Bannon had a studio in various places on Adams and Madison St. in Toledo from approximately 1889 until her early death in 1896 at 45 years old.
