Vicente López y Portaña

BiographyAfter Goya, Vicente López was the most prolific and prestigious Spanish painter of the late 18th- and early 19th -centuries. He painted church murals and altarpieces for his native Valencia as well as for other cities. In addition, he served as court painter to King Ferdinand VII in Madrid, a position that resulted in his receiving numerous portrait commissions, which comprise the majority of his production.
