DescriptionThis rectangular linen cover is constructed of alternating squares of punto a maglia quadra (lacis or filet in French) and reticella (cutwork) needle lace. The punto a maglia quadra ground uses punto a tela (linen or cloth stitch) to create the figural designs. The cover is trimmed with a punto in aria and a braid-based reticella. Punto a maglia quadra laces were used for altar covers, curtains, coverlets, and design features on albs, a liturgical vestment.
