Exhibition HistoryToledo Museum of Art, Varujan Boghosian, Dec. 13, 2013-May 25, 2014.Label TextBest known for his constructions and collages, Varujan Boghosian has been variously described as a sculptor, assembler, scavenger, and historian. In a career spanning more than six decades, Boghosian has produced a body of work that draws inspiration from a rich array of literature, art, history, and music. Boghosian seeks inspiration for his projects from his extensive personal collection of found objects, assembled together in his home and studio. The images and objects that he utilizes for his art often bear the mark of time, and his creations frequently juxtapose groups of seemingly unrelated materials to offer new insights. In describing his process, Boghosian explains: “I work with the mystery of myth and the ambiguity of form. Which of these unions will survive alone? Which the timeless blend? Doubt and change are constant challengers and under their persuasion there is no rest. The perfect introduction: the final piece. This question is the sole propellant. The old magnetic lure, once more, begins to force the play.”
