DescriptionThis flat fragment of cameo glass plaque is carved in opaque light blue glass over a translucent dark brown ground. The design shows a lion walking to the right with its right forepaw extended. The lion’s mouth is open, and its mane is long and wavy. A leaf, possibly a laurel branch, is held in its forepaw. The musculature is rendered with moderate skill, though the carving is somewhat awkward in execution. The back of the piece shows iridescence.
