DescriptionThis unguent bottle is formed from opaque red and white glass intended to imitate porphyry, a deep reddish-purple stone prized in antiquity. The vessel has a somewhat bulbous body that tapers toward the base and is topped by a wide, short neck with a slightly flaring rim. The very thick glass, made from red and white glass paste, has a mottled appearance with coppery red flecks and white inclusions. The bottle was created using the core-forming technique.
