Label TextThis incised storage jar was found in Tomb 129 at Balabish, a multi-period cemetery in Upper Egypt excavated by the Egypt Exploration Fund in 1915. The tomb dates to the 19th Dynasty of the New Kingdom, a time of stability, expansion, and artistic richness. Large jars like this one were used to store provisions for the afterlife, such as grain or oil. The 1915 excavation, undertaken with American institutional support, documented a diverse burial population and uncovered both luxurious and utilitarian objects.Published ReferencesWainwright, Gerald Averay, Balabish: Thirty-Seventh Memoir of the Egypt Exploration Society, London, George Allen & Unwin, Ltd., 1920, p. 72, no. 129.
