DescriptionConical font blown and finished by tooling. Joined by a bladed knop and two wafers to a short circular stem surrounded by six lotus petals above a double-stepped square base. Base pressed upside down in a plain one-piece female mold by a male plunger with a ribbed hemispherical lower end and a square, triangularly ribbed shoulder that formed the hollow square base and the undersurface of the perimeter of the base. The six lotus petals were pressed vertically and, after removal from the mold, reheated and tooled outward. Rough, solid pontil mark in dome. The almost vertical lip of the font indicates that the lamp was intended to be fitted with a cork-supported tin burner for whale oil.
