Label TextHaden encouraged Whistler’s artistic talents and there is no doubt that Whistler’s love of prints was greatly enhanced by his association with his brother-in-law. It is ironic, and even tragic, that Whistler came to reject Haden. But, with Whistler’s proclivity to deny any influences on his talents, the rejection of Haden was inevitable. Only a complete break could clear Whistler of his debt to Haden and alleviate his former allegiance; such a break did occur after the two had an argument in 1867.Published ReferencesPublished in "etudes a l'Eau forte."Exhibition HistoryTMA, Whistler: Influences, Friends, and the Not-So-Friendly, Feb. 26 - May 30, 2010.
