Label TextSeymour Haden was a surgeon, an etcher, and an art collector. He began taking art lessons in Paris while attending the Sorbonne in medicine and became a noted Rembrandt specialist through study and collecting. Haden began etching seriously in 1858 and formed a close collaborative relationship with his brother-in-law, Whistler. This collaboration came to an end with a fight in a Paris café in 1867 attributed to professional rivalry. Haden founded the Royal Society of Painters-Etchers in 1880 and was knighted in 1894 for his contribution to art.Exhibition HistoryTMA, Whistler: Influences, Friends, and the Not-So-Friendly, Feb. 26 - May 30, 2010.
