Label TextSir Francis Seymour Haden was a talented draughtsman who attended a government art school while studying medicine in Paris. He studied etching in particular with the hopes of strengthening his eye-hand coordination and thereby enhancing his surgical skills. Etching and print collecting would become a major pastime during his working life and the joy of his retirement. By the time of his death, Haden had amassed a print collection renowned for its quality (the art of 17th-century Holland was a particular strength), and his printmaking skills were praised throughout Britain, France, and the United States.Published ReferencesH. 33 I/II.
