Label TextAquinas (about 1225-1274), the great Italian theologian, was the surpreme figure in scholasticism, the medieval plilosophy attemping to harmonize faith and reason. In this text, he distinguishes between truth decerned by human reason and that imparted by revelation from the scriptures and church teachings. Aquinas had tremendous impact on western thought, so it is no wonder that it was among the important early texts Schoffer printed. Note that while the black letters are all printed, the initial letters in red (rubrication) were done by hand.
