Label TextRobert Estienne was born into a family of noted painters. Later he married the daughter of Josse Bade. He was a true man of the Renaissance. He was a classicist, a Biblcal scholar, and a great printer of great books in a period of intellectual growth. His fame was based on his skill as a typographer of roman, greek, and hebrew characters, as well as on accomplishments as an editor of classic texts, and latin, greek, and hebrew Bibles. In recognition or his achievement, Francois I appointed Robert Estienne Imprimeur du Roi (the Kings Printer)
