Label TextAt the height of the Spanish Civil War, Miró created a suite of eight etchings, his dark vision of the plight of Spain. He systematically exploited two compositions, here the second of the two, printing the copperplates first separately, then overprinting and rotating them inked alternately in black and red. In front of a tilled field and ominous black sun, a defiant woman raises her arms to protect a girl and boy against a menacing monster, his enormous nose a club or phallus.Exhibition HistoryBetween the Wars; Sept. 5 2008 through Dec.31 2008
