Label TextJoan Miró often instilled a playful humor in his prints. That is the case in this image intended to convey the emotions and noisy gaiety of children at play. Miró freely arranged the brightly colored forms, mimicking the art of children themselves. The artist’s long association with Surrealism, including its fascination with the subconscious mind, informed his fanciful imagery. The dark symbolism found in much Surrealist work is made manifest here through the black background that dominates the otherwise playful scene of color and action.
