Description
Label TextLa Marchande de moutarde was based on a drawing that Whistler produced in Cologne, Germany. Complex linear patterns in the stonework surround of the doorway contribute to the effectiveness of the print. Again, the influence of Charles Émile Jacque is present in the linear vocabulary and composition (see Jacque’s Récureuse nearby). Whistler both made drawings and worked directly on the plates during his trip.Exhibition HistoryTMA Inner Space: June 20, 2008 through Oct.10, 2008 TMA The Painter Was a Printmaker: June 23 - Sept. 9, 1984 TMA Late 19th C French Prints: Mar. 21 - June 19,1983.
