Robert The

American, born 1961
BiographyRobert The is a contemporary New York-based artist (living in Kingston, NY), known for his Gun Books and other sculptures made primarily of books. He studied philosophy and mathematics at the University of Wisconsin, Madison (1979-1984), and the Institute of
Lettering and Design in Chicago (1986-88). He began making book pieces in 1991. His work has been exhibited and collected by notable museums both in the U.S. and internationally, including the Museum of Modern Art, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and the Walker Art Center.
