BiographyDorothy Cross (b. 1956, Cork, Ireland) earned her BA from Leicester Polytechnic, England (1977) and her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute (1982). Currently she lives in north Galway, Ireland. Cross came to public attention in 1988 and subsequently has held many international solo exhibitions and was selected to represent Ireland at the Venice Bienale in 1993, and the Istanbul Biennial in 1997. Her work is included in the
collections of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, the Tate Modern, London, and Goldman Sachs Collection, London, among others. Her large body of work that ranges from individual objects to opera includes several public works, most notably the Ghost Ship (1998), in which she moored a phosphorus-painted boat in Dublin Bay where it glowed for weeks.
