BiographyRichard Whiteley began his career in glass at the age of sixteen when he became a stained glass apprentice. Whiteley holds an undergraduate degree from The School of Art, Australian National University (Glass) and a Masters degree (MFA, Sculpture) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is currently the head of the Glass Workshop, at the School of Art, Australian National University. In the past 10 years, he has presented more than 10 solo exhibitions and his work is held in several major collections, including The Australian National Gallery, The Corning Museum of Glass, and The Palm Springs Museum. Whiteley works primarily with cast glass and uses the medium to create forms with negative space that explore the nature of voids in solid structures.
