Fiona Foley

BiographyFiona Foley is an Aboriginal Australian artist, activist, curator, and writer who uses her art to deconstruct popular media images of black people as violent, criminal or subhuman. As a descendant of the Badtjala people who were forcibly removed from the Fraser Island at the turn of the 20th century, Foley turns to art to address the history of trauma, invasion and dispossession in a compelling political, but also often humorous, way. She trained at the Syndey College of Arts and Central St. Martin's College, London. She was one of the founding members of the Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-operative in Sydney and is today represented in all major public collections in Australia.
