DescriptionThis oval cameo glass medallion fragment was cut in opaque white glass and appears to have been originally set into a vessel of translucent amber-brown glass. It depicts Venus standing and holding a spear, sword, and shield, while Amor (Cupid) offers her a helmet. The figures are rendered in low relief, created by carving through layers of contrasting glass—a technique typical of cameo glass.
