Label TextKakiemon ware was produced in the Arita province of Kyushu, where the chief of porcelain centers of the 17th to 19th centuries were located. The enamels used in its under glaze blue decoration are much brighter than those used in Chinese famille verte. The Kakiemon family of potters, whose sixteenth generation is practicing today, produced much of the finest Japanese porcelain of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. These wares reached the West in considerable quantities and had a far-reaching influence on European ceramics.
