DescriptionThis is a polychrome wall hanging made of long woven strips hung from a metal rod. The textile is constructed in 3 major sections: top gold leaf, center polychrome weave and attached blue woven strips. The long strips are woven together with a wrapped cord weft. The cord has a core of polychrome threads that have been adhered together then the exterior is wrapped in polychrome thread. The top portion is plain weave linen layered with paper, gold leaf, paint (in some locations), and most likely adhesive. The lower ¾ section is woven of horsehair, standard yarn, chenille yarn in a weft twinning, and a 3-ply cotton/polyester thread as the warp. Blue strips have been adhered to and sewn to the upper polychrome weave with a basting stitch at the bottom. The polychrome strip has paint and/or gesso material at the attachment point to the blue strips. The warp ends of the strip weaves are tied off to create fringe. The fringe is painted, creating a stiff supplementary pile. Along the edges of the strip weaves, gesso and paint have been applied to weft.
