DescriptionPhotobook edited by Alfred Stieglitz, illustrated with 4 photogravures after photographs by Edward Steichen, and reproductions of work by Auguste Rodin. Quarto, original printed gray wrappers, slightly worn. “This rare and elegant issue of Camera Work (Number 34/35) is in very good condition. The 4 rich photogravures made after Edward Steichen photographs are each excellent…The portrait of Rodin shows a very slight rub in the lower left quadrant, visible only in strong raking light. This plate also shows very slight wrinkles (from mounting) at the left margin, not affecting the image. The remaining gravures, inky and atmospheric, show no visible flaws. Occasionally, as is common to Camera Work, the small points of glue used to mount the thin tissue to the pages of the volume appear slightly darkened and are visible through the tissue itself, but this is not obtrusive. It is typically confined to the far left-hand corners of 3 of the plates, but the horizontal image is mounted at the right side. The collotypes made after the work of Rodin are all excellent, and the volume is complete as issued.”--Daile Kaplan, Swann Galleries.
