Label TextKnown as an artist with a brilliant command of color and attention to detail, Laura Donefer has been using glass as a primary artistic medium for more than 27 years. Unusual for her work, she chose a monochrome palette of transparent and opaque white glass for this Amulet Basket. According to Donefer, she was experimenting with the form in the middle of a blizzard in the winter of 2007, which inspired her to create this work with its wintry appearance. Donefer also often incorporates mixed media and—literally—“found” objects into her work. A confessed lifelong hoarder, her studio is crammed with what she calls “human sheddings, urban remnants, and natural bric-a-brac.”Exhibition HistoryFlint, MI, The Flint Institute of Arts, Blown Away: International Glass of the 21st Century, Exhibition catalog, 2009, p. 40, ill. p. 41.
