Label TextGregory Seman was born and raised in Flint, Michigan. Since 1990 he has lived in Northern Michigan, adopting Traverse City as his home. Seman has been fascinated with taking photographs and making his own prints since he was 12 years old. Increasing his knowledge and skill set, Seman studied photography at the Rochester Institute of Technology and privately with internationally recognized photographers Howard Bond and John Sexton. The influence of Bond, Ansel Adams, and other landscape photographers working largely in black and white is evident in Seman’s dramatic views of Lake Michigan. He demonstrates a deep passion for the northern Michigan shoreline, studying the seasonal transitions and taking photographs whenever possible. Seman used extended exposures to record the evening light reflecting from the surface of the subtly moving water.Exhibition HistoryToledo Museum of Art, Refraction/Reflection, April 20-September 2, 2012.
