Label TextProsperous Colonial Americans often commissioned silver vessels for milestones such as weddings, births, or other important life events. As commemorations of such occasions, they were engraved with initials or coats-of-arms or other indications of the owners. This elegant Rococo-style sauceboat is engraved L.B. on the side of the bowl, said to be the initials of Colonel Loammi Baldwin, who was engineer to General George Washington during the Revolutionary War.
