Exhibition HistoryNeenah, Wisconsin, The Bergstrom-Mahler Museum, Studio Art Glass: A Collector's International Survey, 1988.Label TextA chance encounter with ancient glass in 1976 at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford lead Diana Hobson to experiment with the ancient technique of pâte-de-verre (French for “glass paste”), which is composed primarily of crushed glass fused with coloring agents. By nature, pâte-de-verre glass objects tend to be small, as fused glass often has limited intrinsic structural strength, crumbling or cracking easily. With works like this vase, Hobson explores the density, fragility and opacity of this demanding medium.1885-1900 or 1920s
