Label TextThe oversize fruit “still lifes” of Flora Mace and Joey Kirkpatrick are intended to, in their words, “confront the viewer and awaken our appreciation of the visual world around us.” Their unique method of coloring their glass “evolved out of our experience using the two dimensional painting tradition. As in painting, we have learned to build layers of color by sifting colored crushed glass powders onto hot glass during the blowing process. It was exciting to find a method of ‘painting’ onto three dimensional blown glass, creating forms with a painterly surface of realistic color and textures.”Published ReferencesLynn, Martha Drexler, Sculpture, Glass, and American Museums, Philadelphia, University of Pennsylvania Press, 2005, p. 203, 210, repr.
