DescriptionThis thin glass jar is transparent moderate olive brown (between 5 Y 4/4 and 5 Y 6/4) with translucent light olive handles and a rim coil streaked with opaque red (5 R 4/2). The fabric cannot be determined because of weathering. The vessel is free-blown with a pontil mark about 1.1 cm in diameter. The rim is rounded in flame and wrapped with a thick coil that was smoothed to form a colored extension. It has a funnel neck, gently sloping shoulder, and a pointed body that ends in a flattened base. Three angular coil handles are applied to the shoulder and attached to the rim, with excess glass at the tips clipped off. This vessel is classified as a Pointed Jar I C 3 h, an unusual form noted for its distinctive applied rim coil treatment.
