DescriptionTransparent to translucent natural pale green (10 G 6/2) appearing dark.
Free-blown. No pontil mark.
Rim horizontally outsplayed, rounded and thickened in flame. Cylindrical neck broadening toward base of vessel. No distinct body. Base flattened with slight depression in center.
Medium thin glass. Fabric cannot be determined because of weathering.

Comparative ReferencesSee also Harden 1936, no. 823 (pls. X, XX) from Karanis (H. 5.4, bottle with solid base and very narrow hollow part. Pontil techn. Harden 1936, no. 512 (pls. VI and XVII) from Karanis (H. 3.9 jar with ovoid body) found in a wooden box with no lid; bottom half of box painted red, upper half black or dark brown (pl. VI). Harden 178 says the jars nos. 512 ff. were found in houses of the late 3rd or early 4th century. In shape it is nearly akin to some of the small flasks of class IX B (no. 823ff).
