Label TextLike Richard Estes, whose work is also featured in this gallery, Robert Bechtle is one of the leading photorealist painters of the 20th century. The subject of this work—a parked 1968 Chevy Nova, viewed from behind—features two reoccurring elements of Bechtle’s art: automobiles and scenes from everyday American life. Here, as is typical in Bechtle’s work, the parked car is rendered with painstakingly careful attention to detail, while the light, color, and balance of geometric shapes in the composition seem to transcend and transform the scene depicted.Published References(Advertisement) Shorewood Atelier, Inc.; The Art Gallery, Vol. 15, No. 9, June 1972; repr. p. 3 (color).Exhibition HistoryToledo Museum of Art, Contemporary Prints: Persistent Realities, October 6 - November12, 1978.
