Exhibition HistoryTMA Persistent Realities, Contemporary Prints: Sept. 2, - Nov. 12, 1979Label TextPhilip Pearlstein consistently approaches the human body with an attitude of cool detachment. This work displays his analytic treatment of the female form in which an unknown model rests on her back. She averts her gaze while the artist depicts her voyeuristically from above with a strong contour line. The regular pattern of the rug acts as a foil to the model’s flesh and its receding plane contrasts with the volumetric elements of her form. The carpet’s bright decorative design adds an expressive note to Pearlstein’s skillful composition.- Works on Paper
