Label TextThe Italian Andrea Mantegna was one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance and his prints were among the most influential of their time. He was an important influence on Dürer, many of whose early works show the influence of the Italian master. Notice his distinctive style of parallel hatching (closely placed lines running in the same direction) used for areas of shade. Also notice how the scene shows the influence of the ancient classical world as reinterpreted in the 15th century.Published ReferencesBartsch 19.
