Label TextThe Renaissance scholar Erasmus of Rotterdam (1466?-1536) traveled widely and taught Greek at Cambridge University. He is perhaps best known for his Greek edition of the New Testament with Latin translation, published in 1516. Hans Holbein, court painter to King Henry VIII of England, painted a portrait of Erasmus as early as 1523.
