Exhibition HistoryTMA, "Monkey Business," July 2 - August 30, 2009.Label TextThis illustrated book is a very fine and rare early sixteenth-century German edition of THE PASSION OF CHRIST. Graf, one of the most original Northern Renaissance artists in the age of Albrecht Durer, designed twenty-three images, each accompanying its related text on the facing page. The book is opened to display the woodcut "Mary Magdalen Washing Christ's Feet," set amidst sixteenth-century German architecture (complete with a stork resting on the chimney).
