Label TextBetween 1992 and 1998 Linda Butler made eight separate journeys to Italy. The photographs made during these visits were included in the publication Italy: In the Shadow of Time. The earthy quality of her Italian photographs is enhanced by the use of toning, seen here in the brownish hue. A polytoner (a mixture of brown and selenium toning agents) gives the image a warm, mellow contrast suggesting age. Consistent in all of Butler’s work is the use of light and shadow to add depth and intensity to the subject.Exhibition History
